Attire

Over the years, we have become experts in combining color palettes that are both flattering and pleasing to the eye. The best color pallets for our portraits are dark colors and jewel tones. These colors lend to a cohesive look that is both timeless and will coordinate well with your home. Photographing on a beautiful dark gray background allows for the contrast in the warmth of skin tones pulling attention straight to the faces of those in the portrait.

Kaur Fine Art specializes in formal family portraits. We will create a classic portrait starting with the proper clothing. When planning, keep clothing in line with what you would plan for your family to wear to a formal wedding or other black tie event. It is best to avoid patterns.

Here are some guidelines for each family member.

Women – Choose a gown that is dark or jewel toned (black, deep sapphire, red, emerald green etc.) We find it best if your dress has sleeves as it will help draw attention to your face.

Men – A dark suit or tuxedo is best. A jacket of some kind will complete your look. We recommend a white dress shirt that will look great with or without a tie.

Girls – A dress is recommended for girls as well. Please select something within the same color palette as the rest of your family (dark colors or jewel toned). Girls may choose sleeveless or short sleeved dresses.

Boys – An outfit similar to the men is a good choice. Although jackets are our preference, young boys may also wear a dress shirt along with a vest in lieu of a jacket.

Other clothing that can be appropriate for your portrait session are cultural clothing, clothing related to some activities (orchestra, dance, horseback riding). Speak to us before your session if you have any questions.

If you insist on dressing casually, please keep a dark color pallet in mind. Darker jeans, tops, dresses etc. It is important to keep a classic style in mind. Our portraits are timeless, and the clothing should be as well.
